Here Come the Drums: Live and Direct from Quarantine pt. 3

Next up in the series is a remix of Tweet "Oops (Oh My)" with accompanying artwork by Double Planet (aka Vapor Eyes), also available as a 12"x12" print via his website.

So by early May of lockdown, like many, I was starting to go a little stir crazy. This remix is me working out that energy with some Drum & Bass. It's a genre I've wanted to try my hand at but always thought twice. Mainly because the "Amen Break" is so revered in the world of DnB / Jungle with both genres originating with the usage of the drum sample.

ICYMI: The "Amen Break" is 5-second long, drums-only section in the Funk/Soul group The Winstons Grammy Award-winning single "Color Him Father." This break has been sampled 2000+ since sampling was even a thing. It's everywhere in the late 80s-early 90s Hip-Hop, and certain genres owe their entire existence to these drums. Including DnB.

Oddly enough, despite the thousands of chopped drum samples in this remix, it also represents me moving away further from leaning on sampling so heavily. More instrumentation overall and I'm taking full advantage of Ableton instruments. It's much easier to move quickly through song composition. So yeah, if you dig this there's a whole mess more of DnB remixes sitting here waiting for your earholes! I'm kind of addicted now :)
